Saint André example itinerary

This walking itinerary shows a number of walks departing directly from the Chateau – from 9km to 19km and between two and five hours walking a day, often following the clearly marked yellow ‘petit randonée’ trails, and at altitudes of between 600 and 965 metres.

Chalencon Day 1 – arrive and discuss your week ahead.

Chalencon Day 2 – The Roman Bridges and Chalencon; 9km, (PR 211) This takes in the beautiful village of Chalencon, and two of the best examples of roman and medieval bridges in the Haute Loire. We can arrange for you to visit the beautiful 11th century chapel and tower (often closed to public).

Day 3 – The Bourianne lavaflow 16km, (PR 209). A stunning walk starting along the Ance valley and up to the Chaux plateau and a perfect picnic spot looking down upon the Bourianne lava flow, the best example in the region.

Day 4 – Villedieu lake 17km, (PR 207) This walk includes beautiful views of the plateau de la Madeleine, and combines walking through pastures, and forests, and small, picturesque hamlets with typical Auvernat examples of lavoirs(old communal washing places), bread ovens, and traditional crosses.

Day 5 – The Ance Valley 19km, (PR 212) This walk has wonderful views of Mont Mezenc and Meygal mountains, as well as picturesque walks through the steep wooded gorges of the Ance valley.

Day 6 – Departure day.
