Self Guided Walking Holidays in the Haute Loire, France

The Haute Loire in the south of the Auvergne, France is an unspoilt region of volcanic hills and mountain pastures. In the spring, butterflies and wild flowers fill the woodlands and meadows. Even in the height of summer the paths are never busy and the mountain plateau provides a comfortable temperature for walkers and explorers. The autumns are frequently mild and dry, a truly gorgeous season for enjoying the fauna and flora of this special region.
We offer flexible, self-guided walking holidays for different levels of experience, from serious walkers, to those wishing to combine gentle walking and rambling with a wider exploration of this most unspoilt, fascinating region. This, combined with English speaking back-up, maps and route notes, well marked paths, and delicious packed lunches helps to make a stress-free, enjoyable holiday. On your arrival we will discuss what kind of walks you want to do, and for how long and we will tailor the walks to your needs.
In the evening come back for a bit of extra luxury – all the bathrooms have claw foot baths, the log fire in the winter sitting room, and of course delicious home cooking, including quality vegetarian options. We are also happy to cater for anyone with special dietary needs.
The photo above is of the lovely village of Chalencon, half an hour’s walk from us and part of a lovely half day walk taking in the beautiful Ance valley with its Roman bridges before heading back through unspoilt hamlets and pasture where the local sheep herds still roam free tended by the local shepherds.
